Minecraft Festival is Postponed Due To Coronavirus Fears

Minecraft is such a popular cultural phenomenon that it was slated to have its own three-day event in September, complete with interactive exhibits, co-op and competitive gameplay, live entertainment, panels and merchandise. Tickets to the first-ever Minecraft Festival in Orlando were scheduled to go on sale this week. ReedPop, which also organizes New York Comic Con (NYC) and San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) announced that the convention was delayed for a whole year due to the coronavirus virus. Although the event was still months away and the issue could be resolved by then the producers, partners, and exhibitors have encountered issues when it comes to planning the event and making sure the attendees have a good time.

Minecraft Live will continue to be available to players. The streaming event will be as scheduled and will highlight the most recent Minecraft news, features and behind-the-scenes looks at the upcoming projects.

With numerous conventions and events that have been cancelled or delayed due coronavirus issues, this news isn't a huge surprise. However, it seems odd that ReedPop and Mojang Minecraft, the developer of Minecraft -- announced the convention only a week ago, when COVID-19 was in the news. It was a wise decision to cancel the event prior to when tickets went on-sale and attendees had made travel arrangements. This has saved a lot of hassles.
